I saw this show last summer in Paris at the Jeu de Paume- and now it comes to the SFMOMA in San Francisco! Even if you think you’ve seen Avedon photos already, and are oversaturated by his splendid and defining images – this exhibit is WELL WORTH a visit. Avedon’s unwavering energy is captured in this show. You’ll see a very comprehensive collection of his works from celebrity and political portraits to his personal work “In The American West”. To learn more about Avedon’s work and production of “In The American West” I highly recommend the book by his then assistant and now Photographer in her own right – Laura Wilson entitled “Avedon At Work: In the American West” Wilson worked with Avedon during the six years he was making In the American West.
To learn more about Avedon and the show at SFMOMA listen to an interview with Executive Curator Sandra Philips as broadcast on KQED Forum.
